A+ Teacher Award

Purpose of the Award

opsf logo 200pxThe purpose of the A+ Award is to recognize and honor exceptionally creative and productive work by Omaha Public Schools professional staff members. Education today presents great challenges, with increasing demands upon teachers to help students achieve higher standards of knowledge and skill required in a very demanding world. Many students come with needs that may place them at risk in their development as mature and contributing citizens in our community.

Every day, outstanding teachers meet these challenges, many in extraordinary ways. The more difficult the challenges, the more highly we should regard the professional accomplishments of these educators. Their work is recognized as examples of the professional commitment, wisdom, and skill of Omaha Public Schools teachers in meeting the educational needs of all students. The A+ Award is presented to staff members (general education teachers, special education teachers or therapists, counselors) who have been nominated by parents, for successful efforts in promoting and enhancing inclusive practices for students with disabilities.

  • Band of Parents a committed and also passionate group of  about 100 families of children in treatment for neuroblastoma. They are from all walks of life and share the common bond of fighting this disease and the optimism that with help, a cure can be found. She was a successful student and the apple of her dad’s eye.

John and Jean Dalton and their granddaughter, Leonna Dalton-Phillip, were being remembered Wednesday for all the good things they brought to the world.

Leonna had a bright future, her father said. She received straight A’s as a senior at Burke and had scholarship offers for college.

“She thought she might want to go to school in California,” he said. “We were just investigating that.”

Phillip described his daughter as a very loving person who worked at the Target store at Sorensen Park Plaza.
