An Update from the Chad Townsend Family

July 2017

"Chad had an eventful month! On June 9th, Dr. Thorell at UNMC was able to coil/repair 80% of the aneurysm.  What a BIG day that was!  Since that time, Chad's sedation has s.l.o.w.l.y worn off.  On June 20th, Chad opened his eyes and began responding to physical touch and simple verbal commands.  Chad had a few more medical procedures during his stay in the ICU and handled them all brilliantly.

Some of these include a permanent shunt in his brain and the insertion of a trach and feeding tube.  Chad made tremendous medical strides over the past three weeks and with the completion of an MRI and Dr. Thorell's blessing, he was moved to a rehabilitation center on July 6th.  Chad has O.T., P.T. and speech daily.  His bouts of alertness involve him looking at people and things.  He is able to now use his voice and will answer questions and convey his thoughts periodically.

Even though Chad continues to make progress, his journey is far from over.  There is much more work to be done.  With Chad doing his part and Megan taking care of things on the home front with countless friends and family, they still need your support.  Prayers for strength, continued healing and of course thanksgiving are always welcome.  However, without Chad working, an additional way to support he and the family is to make a donation.  There is a fund set up at Wells Fargo to aid him during his recovery.  The last thing we want is for Chad to worry about his family's financial well being.  Please consider making a donation in support of this amazing man.  Knowing Chad, you can bet that anything donated will be generously paid back through his actions, words and deeds.  Thank you for your support! (from Megan Townsend)

May 2017

“On May 24, Chad suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm. Since that time, Chad's doctors, medical teams and overall care team at Creighton Medical Center and UNMC have been working extremely diligently to provide him with a high-quality level of care.

“We are extremely grateful for all the love and support Chad and his family have received thus far.  However, as we enter into the next phase of recovery, the family could use the community's financial support for medical care as well as provisions for his wife, Megan and his two young children, Elliana and Jack.  With the future unknown, it would be very reassuring to Chad to know that his family's needs are being taken care of financially.  Thank you for your continued prayers and support for this amazing individual.”
